The things I look for is mostly good gameplay. I don't care about the story as much.
My favorite battle systems are from Final Fantasy 4 (ds), and Tales of Symphonia.
The ones I hate are from Earthbound, and RPG Maker VX.

Cool levels are always an awesome thing.

Cock jokes.

charatcers with a good background story, interesting storyline, graphixs, and good music.

I like a game with fine, easy-to-learn gameplay, a semi-complicated storyline with plenty of amazing epic plot twists, and any bits of variety that keeps the game interesting.

I'm not much of an RPG fan game though. What I mentioned is more of what I'd hope to see in a game like Zelda, lol

I like being able to customize the initial look of your character, and be able to put on many different types of clothes. Also, there needs to be a humonguous map with many different enemies.

To answer your "EDIT" question, I think turn based with menus does well for rpg flashs.

1. Battle system: Turn-based combat will be liked more by the real RPGer, while Action-based combat will be more fun to play for about everyone, so go for Action since you'll be covering more people and there aren't many action-based rpg's around.
2. Story: This is something you have to balance. Make a steady main story, but also make enough side-quests so players can rest of the main story-line for a bit and maybe get some nice rewards.
3. Epic boss: do not go to far with the bosses, it should be:"wow, a boss-battle *preparing himself*" but not: "oh, it's another boss-battle". In other words, do not swing about with about 20 bossbattles in one game.
4. Epic map: another thing you'll have to balance. Don't make me spend hours just to find that character or something and don't make the maps to big (adding a map of the local area will allow you to make it bigger) but also don't make the maps too small, so you don't complete the game in hardly an hour.

I'm looking forward to this game and I hope my infoes helped you a little.
Doooom

Definitely, thanks!

effort of knowing how to make a good RPG. and knowing the different aspects of one.

No sarcasm intended.

turned based games are extreamly slow and boring. i think rpg games need an awesome atmosphere, most of the rpgs here are just a bunch of crappy drawn trees cut and pasted everywhere.
just keep it interesting, no one wants a boring rpg =P i doubt you'll have any problems making it unique though, judging by your other games =3
so what's up with that other game you were working on? the one with the little furry guy

Er, I put it on hiatus due to technical problems. It'll be made after this RPG, I think.

im not sure what makes a good rpg but i kows whats i hates. Avoid long caves with massive corridors full fo random battles. Ogre number 96 was just as fun as ogre number 10, which is not at all.

Vary the creatures a little make them funny or weird or make them standout. Make teh ranom events hard but very infrequent, nothing pisses me off more than having an objective in sight and being help up for the 32nd time by a 1 hit monster battle. Why not just cut the charade and not have the fight at all?!

Also make all us OCD's out there happy and reward the people who are persistant and check everything. Im a tad OCD wih rpg's and i religiously check every corridor in every cave to make sure i dont miss something.

Also provide a walkthrough for tehe lazy ones, or a hint giver that gives you an idea of what to do. i ahte ladoing an old RPG and having no idea in hell where im going and getting messages from people i talk to like "you better get going".

Make bosses fun and DONT allow them to heal themselves fully without means to stop it, you mgiht as well just double thir health otherwise. A main feature of a boss is that it SHOULDNT be predictable at all. Have it surprise you with attacks it seldom uses. Dont make it have a 1 hit kill move EVER or allow them to follow a cycle that is easily seen and prevented over and over again until teh boss dies. No one likes hitting 1 DMG to a boss with tonnes of health that doesnt fight back. Chipping away at bosses is BORING. Amke it fast paced and adrenalin filled with a boss that is your equal in most ways not one that is a health horder or HEAVY hitter.

Dont let teh story shit itself inside out more than once "COUGH tales of Synphonia COUGH" or people will get annoyed. Add twists but dont make half teh story pointless by making you work for the bad guy or w/e. Dont be cliche.

Allow you to heal at most towns or give you a heal spell. Having low health on a game that sees fit only you provide health potions every millenia or so annoys me beyond belief.

Thats all i got. ive played your other games and they are VERY good. Make a good rpg and finally break the overused RPG mould.

That's my hope. I've yet to see a flash RPG that really impressed me. Thanks for the tips!

My two cents:
Battle systems: turn based menu type (like sonny and sinjid)
I prefer big boss battles over free range maps, free range maps give me the feeling that i have an obligation to explore everything.

But if you reward the exploring it can be good, right? :D I'm thinking I'll be pretty linear, though. That's one of the things I liked about Secret of Evermore.

A good RPG game should have up to 10 main character but you can make your own character. There should also be at least 3 sides and 5 big bosses.
Weapons: 4 types of sworts, 3 types of bows, and 5 types of magin.
Also a good and long main story. Also you can save the game.
